Sopwith Camel Control Column

An extremely rare, if not unique, survivor.  A genuine 1st World War Sopwith Camel control grip and column assembly, complete with gun triggers. The Camel’s pilot survived being shot up and crash-landed in Allied lines, keeping this column and a broken strut as a souvenir.  This, the strut and his logbook were unfortunately separated in an auction’s lotting system some years back. The Sopwith Camel was almost as legendary in the Great War as the Spitfire was in the 2nd World War.
